Foundations of Our Faith

What Are the BCMD and Blue Ridge Baptist Association—And Why Does The Crossings Give Every Month?

Let’s talk about something that usually flies below the radar but is absolutely vital to the life and mission of The Crossings Community Church: our partnership with the Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware (BCMD) and the Blue Ridge Baptist Association. If you’ve ever wondered why we give a portion of our offerings each month to organizations you maybe never see, or how these partnerships actually move the gospel forward, you’re about to find out why these connections matter more than most people realize.

First—What Is the BCMD?

The Baptist Convention of Maryland/Delaware (BCMD) is our state convention, a family of over 400 churches across Maryland and Delaware who have linked arms to accomplish together what we could never do alone. The mission is clear: “Equipping and resourcing churches to make disciples” in our region. That means when you give faithfully through The Crossings, your generosity is helping:

  • Plant new gospel-centered churches in places desperate for hope.

  • Strengthen and encourage struggling or established local churches.

  • Equip ministry leaders, pastors, staff, and volunteers, through regional trainings, learning cohorts, and leadership events.

  • Provide support and practical help to churches during crisis or transition, whether it’s a leadership vacancy, recovery from a disaster, or responding to sudden local needs.

  • Fuel statewide and regional missions, disaster relief teams, collegiate ministries, and compassion work.

Every year, the BCMD hosts events like The Gathering, an annual meeting where church leaders and members come together for worship, teaching, encouragement, and coordinating mission across Maryland and Delaware. The BCMD doesn’t exist above the local church; it exists to serve it, to multiply its reach, and to provide resources most congregations wouldn’t have on their own. Your giving to the BCMD is not just about keeping the lights on at a denominational office, it’s a direct investment in fueling new ministries, new church plants, and leadership development within our own backyard.

What About the Blue Ridge Baptist Association?

The Blue Ridge Baptist Association is our “local tribe” within the Baptist family, the network of like-minded, gospel-preaching Southern Baptist churches across Frederick, Western Maryland, and nearby communities. This group comes together for even more localized support: praying for one another, sharing resources for events or outreach, joining forces for missions, and lending practical help when a sister church is in need.

The Association hosts area-wide evangelism training, supports pastors’ fellowships and retreats, coordinates youth and children’s ministry programming, and helps churches, big and small, navigate everything from financial challenges to leadership transitions. When one of our local churches grieves a loss or faces a big project, association churches are often the first to bring meals, work side-by-side, or help with expertise and encouragement. It’s the blue Ridge Baptist Association that loans us the party bus (for free) when we do youth events, gives us use of the block party trailer (again for free) when we do outreach events and sends financial assistance when churches face unexpected financial strains.

So Why Does The Crossings Give Every Month?

It’s simple, and it’s biblical: we’re better together. When you participate in worship and give financially at The Crossings, part of every dollar goes out the door, not to some bureaucracy, but as kingdom investment in multiplying disciples, reaching new people, and building up the whole body of Christ right here in our region.

Giving to the BCMD and Blue Ridge isn’t “charity”, it’s how we tithe corporately. We may be a new and growing church, but by ourselves we can’t send missionaries, organize disaster relief, train all our leaders, or plant churches in every unreached neighborhood. Through these partnerships, we have a front row seat (and a hand in the work) of what God is doing all across Maryland, Delaware, and beyond.

The Bible’s model is clear: local churches, while autonomous, are called to collaborate. The Apostle Paul’s letters were filled with generosity from one church to another, with instructions to support and encourage the larger Kingdom family (see Romans 15:25-27, 2 Corinthians 8–9). When you give, you echo that same spirit of partnership.

The Bottom Line

Our monthly giving isn’t just about paying bills; it’s also about tithing as a church and fueling the Great Commission right here and now. It’s about coming alongside brothers and sisters we may never meet and leaving a gospel legacy that lasts far beyond Sunday services. Thank you for giving, for trusting us to steward these resources, and for dreaming bigger than the walls of our own building.

If you want to learn more or get involved directly in what these partnerships are doing, come talk to me. I would love to show you where your prayers and offerings are making a difference for the gospel.
