Called To Serve: What The Bible Says EVERY Christian Should Be Doing
Hello, Crossings Family!
It’s easy to think that serving in the church is something for “the professionals”, pastors, staff, or maybe those “super volunteers” who always seem to be here. But that’s NOT what the Bible teaches! In fact, Scripture is clear that every Christian, young and old, is called to serve in the local church as part of their daily walk with Jesus.
Romans 12:4-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 paint a picture of the church as a body, where EVERY part has a role. When one part isn’t functioning, the whole suffers! Ephesians 4:11-12 says God gave pastors and leaders to equip the saints (that’s you!) for the work of ministry. You weren’t just saved “to sit,” but to serve.
Why does this matter? Because serving refocuses us from ourselves to others. It’s how we fulfill Jesus’ command to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34). Serving in the church isn’t about being busy it’s about building up the family of God and helping His mission move forward.
Right now, there are open opportunities at The Crossings to join both our Welcome/Hospitality Team and our Youth and Children’s ministries. Maybe you have a warm smile and love making newcomers feel at home. Or maybe God has given you patience and energy to pour into our kids and teens helping them know how deep God’s love truly is.
Don’t underestimate the power of your presence. One friendly handshake, one lesson taught, one moment of mentoring a teen can be used by God to change a life.
If you’re not sure where to start, reach out! Sometimes the best way to find your spot in service is just to try something new. The best churches are the ones where everyone from the oldest member to the newest kid finds a way to pitch in.
Let’s step up as a family, remembering that serving is what makes us more like Jesus, who “did not come to be served, but to serve” (Mark 10:45). The work is plentiful, and God has a place for you here at The Crossings!
