Unstoppable:The Church on Mission

The book of Acts is the story of how the Holy Spirit used ordinary people to launch an extraordinary movement—the Church. From Jerusalem to the ends of the earth, the mission of God moved forward through bold preaching, sacrificial living, and Spirit-empowered obedience. That same mission is still alive today. In this 15-week series, we’ll walk through the book of Acts and discover how God wants to use us—right here, right now—as part of His unstoppable plan to bring hope to the world.

Day 5 – Motives, Money, and the Secret Place

Scripture: Philippians 2:3–4; 2 Corinthians 9:6–8

Big idea: God cares not only that we serve and give, but why we do it.

Reflection:
Near the end of the message, Justin challenges potential elders and deacons to check their motives. Wanting a title, power, or respect is a bad reason to lead. At the same time, he calls the whole church to examine motives in serving and giving. Only a fraction of church members give financially, even though God has been generous to all of us. Real service and generosity flow from a heart that knows it has already received mercy. We do not serve or give to impress anyone. We do it as an act of worship.

Heart check:

  • When I think about giving, do I feel fear, resentment, or gratitude? Why?

  • If God said “no” to leadership for me, would I still be happy to serve in hidden ways?

Prayer:
“Father, search my heart. Pull out pride, fear, and selfishness. Make me a cheerful giver and a quiet servant who is satisfied with your approval alone.”

Today’s step:
Pick one concrete act of generosity this week
a financial gift, a meal, or a hidden act of service
and offer it to God with a thankful heart.
