Set Apart: Acts 13, June 15, 2026

This past Sunday we continued our series "Unstoppable: The Church on Mission" with Sermon 34, "Set Apart," from Acts 13:1-4.

We opened with Isaiah 6:1-8 and Isaiah's encounter with the holiness of God. Then we turned to one of the most pivotal moments in the entire book of Acts: the morning the Holy Spirit spoke into a room of worshipers and fasting believers in Antioch and sent the gospel global for the first time.

Three things from the passage stood out.

First, a Spirit-directed church goes when God calls. The church in Antioch was not in a planning session. They were worshiping and fasting. In the quiet, the Spirit spoke with specific names and a specific assignment. When they heard it, they obeyed without delay.

Second, when you are doing God's will, you will face opposition. The moment the door opened to the Roman governor Sergius Paulus, a false prophet named Elymas stepped in to close it. Opposition is not a sign you are off track. Often it is a sign you are on it.

Third, your job is to be faithful. The results belong to God. Paul spoke the truth and left the outcome with God. Our assignment is to plant and water. The growth is His.
